WEBSITE BUILDERS
WordPress.com
Paid links. We earn a commission if you buy through links on this page. It never changes our ranking — see how we rank.
Pricing
We do not reprint prices. They change too often for that to be honest, and a number on our page with no date is worse than sending you to the source.
How we rated it
What it is
Hosted WordPress: the software that runs a large share of the web, maintained for you, with plugins and themes available on the higher plans.
Who it is for
Anyone publishing a lot of writing who wants to own the result and not maintain a server.
Where it is strongest
Content sites. Decades of plugins mean whatever you need — SEO, memberships, a shop — already exists and is documented.
Where it falls short
Plugins and themes are only available above the lower plans, which is where most people discover the real price. It is slower to make look good than a modern builder. And plugin sprawl is how WordPress sites become slow and insecure.
Our verdict
Recommended for writing-heavy sites. For a landing page or a portfolio, Framer gets you something better-looking in a fraction of the time.
Editorial assessment. We earn a commission on some links; it does not change the ranking.
