Pricing
We do not reprint prices. They change too often for that to be honest, and a number on our page with no date is worse than sending you to the source.
How we rated it
What it is
An e-commerce plugin for WordPress that turns a site into a shop: products, checkout, shipping and tax, extended by a large ecosystem of plugins.
Who it is for
Businesses already on WordPress who want to sell without moving platform, and anyone who wants to own their shop outright.
Where it is strongest
Full control over a shop. There is no platform fee, you own the data and the code, and almost anything can be customised because it is all yours.
Where it falls short
You are responsible for hosting, security, updates and performance — and a slow shop costs sales. Plugin sprawl is how WooCommerce sites become fragile. And the total cost of good hosting plus plugins often exceeds the hosted alternatives.
Our verdict
Recommended when you want ownership and have someone to maintain it. If nobody is going to do the maintenance, Shopify is cheaper than the outage you will eventually have.
