Pricing
We do not reprint prices. They change too often for that to be honest, and a number on our page with no date is worse than sending you to the source.
How we rated it
What it is
A hosted Postgres database with authentication, file storage, realtime subscriptions and auto-generated APIs on top. Open source, so you can run it yourself.
Who it is for
Developers building an application who do not want to assemble a database, a login system and a file store separately.
Where it is strongest
Getting a real backend standing in an afternoon, with an actual relational database underneath rather than something you will outgrow.
Where it falls short
You still need to understand Postgres and row-level security; get the latter wrong and your data is public. Free projects pause when idle. And some pieces are younger and rougher than the database itself.
Our verdict
Recommended as the default backend for a new project. It being plain Postgres is the point: if you leave, your data comes with you.
Editorial assessment. We earn a commission on some links; it does not change the ranking.
