What it is
Google's AI assistant, built into Search, Workspace and Android as well as its own app and API. It reads very long documents, handles images and video, and reaches your Gmail, Drive and Calendar when you let it.
Who it is for
Anyone already living in Google Workspace, and developers who want a very large context window without paying the premium.
Where it is strongest
Working across your own Google data — finding the thread, the document and the meeting that relate to one question — and reasoning over documents too long for most alternatives.
Where it falls short
Quality swings noticeably between the model tiers inside one subscription. The Workspace integration promises more than it delivers in practice. And giving an assistant access to your whole mailbox is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by clicking accept.
Our verdict
Recommended if your work lives in Google. On pure reasoning quality, Claude and ChatGPT are still ahead for hard tasks.
