What it is
Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant: a chat interface, desktop and mobile apps, and an API. It handles long documents well, writes and edits code, and can work with files you upload. Projects let you keep a set of documents and instructions attached to a conversation so you do not re-explain context every time.
Who it is for
Anyone who writes, researches or codes for a living and wants one assistant for all three. It is a particularly good fit if you work with long documents — contracts, reports, codebases — because it keeps track of more at once than most alternatives.
Where it is strongest
Long-form work where the context matters: rewriting a document while keeping its voice, reading through a pile of research and pulling out what is relevant, or working through a codebase rather than a single file.
Where it falls short
Image generation is absent — it reads images but does not make them. The free tier runs out quickly if you use it seriously. And like every model of its kind, it states things with confidence that are wrong, so anything load-bearing needs checking.

Our highest rating, and the assistant most of the plans on this site are written against. If you buy one AI subscription, this or ChatGPT is the one; which of the two suits you is mostly a question of taste.
