Where it is strongest
Routine extraction from common tools. The connectors are maintained, which is the work you are buying — a connector you write yourself breaks when the source changes.
Where it falls short
Self-hosting is more operational work than it looks. Connector quality varies, and the long tail is rough. And the cloud pricing by rows moved surprises people with large tables.
Our verdict
Recommended for standard warehouse loading. For one or two simple sources, a script is less machinery and less to maintain.
